The Day I Tried to Live – Soundgarden
I woke the same
As any other day except a voice was in my head
It said, “Seize the day
Pull the trigger, drop the blade and watch the rolling heads”
The day I tried to live
I stole a thousand beggar’s change
And gave it to the rich, yeah
The day I tried to win
I dangled from the power lines
And let the martyrs stretch, yeah
Singing one more time around (might do it)
One more time around (might make it)
One more time around (might do it)
One more time around (might make it)
The day I tried to live, yeah
Words you say
Never seem to live up to the ones inside your head
The lives we make
Never seem to ever get us anywhere but dead
The day I tried to live
I wallowed in the blood and mud
With all the other pigs, hey
Singing one more time around (might do it)
One more time around (might make it)
One more time around (might do it)
One more time around (might make it)
The day I tried to live, yeah
I tried
I woke the same as any other day you know
I should have stayed in bed
The day I tried to win
I wallowed in the blood and mud
With all the other pigs
And I learned that I was a liar
I learned that I was a liar
I learned that I was a liar
I learned that I was a liar
Singing one more time around (might do it)
One more time around (might make it)
One more time around (might do it)
One more time around (might make it)
The day I tried to live
Just like you
Just like you
One more time around
One more time around
Rio – Duran Duran
Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines, she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio, dance across the Rio Grande
I’ve seen you on the beach and I’ve seen you on TV
Two of a billion stars, it means so much to me
Like a birthday or a pretty view
But then I’m sure that you know it’s just for you
Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines, she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio, dance across the Rio Grande
Hey now, wooh, look at that, did she nearly run you down?
At the end of the drive, the lawmen arrive
You make me feel alive, alive, alive
I’ll take my chance, ’cause luck is on my side or something
I know what you’re thinking, I’ll tell you something, I know what you’re thinking
Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twists across a dusty land
And when she shines, she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio, dance across the Rio Grande
Her name is Rio, she don’t need to understand
And I might find her if I’m looking like I can
Oh Rio, Rio, hear them shout across the land
From mountains in the north down to the Rio Grande
Duran Duran are an English new wave band formed in Birmingham in 1978. The group were a leading band in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US in the 1980s. The group was formed by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and bassist John Taylor, with the later addition of drummer Roger Taylor, and after numerous personnel changes, guitarist Andy Taylor (none of the Taylors are related) and lead singer Simon Le Bon. These five members featured the most commercially successful line-up.

how versatile a song can be, to be featured in so many different movie genres :’D
A Shaffer
This song encapsulates for me my last years growing up in Tehran, Iran (yes, that Iran!), in the late 70s. I would “borrow” my dad’s shortwave radio and sneak up to the roof of our house on those hot summer nights. There, most all roofs are flat giving a great view of the night sky. I would lay on my sleeping bag with the radio as my dreamweaver train, slowly scanning frequencies from around the world while gazing deep into the starry sky. I recall coming across this song frequently and would always pause to listen to whole song. While tracking a satellite slowly drifting across the night sky, or catching a fleeting shooting star, my mind would weave dreams of magnificent things and I knew then that my heart was on fire, my soul was like a wheel turning and my love was alive.
…
I’ve just closed my eyes again
Climbed aboard the dream weaver train
Driver take away my worries of today
And leave tomorrow behind
Ooh, dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
Ooh, dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light
Fly me high through the starry skies
Maybe to an astral plane
Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today’s pain
Ooh, dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
Ooh, dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light
Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
Meet me on the other side
Ooh, dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
Ooh, dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light
Dream weaver

Travelling Riverside Blues – Led Zeppelin
Asked sweet mama, Let me be her kid
She said, “You might get hurt if you don’t keep it hid”
Well I know my baby, If I see her in the dark
I said I know my rider, If I see her in the dark
Now, I goin’ to Rosedale, Take my rider by my side
Still barrelhouse, If it’s on the riverside, yeah
I know my baby, Lord, I said, is really sloppy drunk
I know my mama, Lord, a brownskin, but she ain’t no plum
See my baby, tell her, Tell her hurry home
Had no lovin’, since my baby been gone
See my baby, Tell hurry on home
I ain’t had, Lord, my right mind, Since my rider’s been gone
Hey, she promises, She’s my rider
I wanna tell you, She’s my rider
I know you’re mine, She’s my rider
She ain’t but sixteen, But she’s my rider
I’m goin’ to Rosedale, Take my rider by side
Anybody argue with me man, I’ll keep them satisfied
Well, see my baby, tell her, Tell her the shape I’m in
Ain’t had no lovin’, Lord, since you know when
Spoken: Why don’t you come into my kitchen
She’s a kindhearted lady. She studies evil all the time
She’s a kindhearted woman. She studies evil all the time
Squeeze my lemon ’til the juice runs down my leg
Squeeze it so hard, I’ll fall right out of bed
Squeeze my lemon, ’til the juice runs down my leg
Spoken: I wonder if you know what I’m talkin’ about
Oh, but the way that you squeeze it girl
I swear I’m gonna fall right out of bed
She’s a good rider
She’s my kindhearted lady
I’m gonna take my rider by my side
I said her front teeth are lined with gold
She’s gotta mortgage on my body, got a lien on my soul
She’s my brownskin sugar plum
Kiss Me – Sixpence None the Richer
Kiss me, out of the bearded barley
Nightly, beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, (swing, swing) swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear that dress
Oh, kiss me, beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon’s sparkling
So kiss me
Kiss me, (kiss me) down by the broken tree house
Swing me, (swing me) upon its hanging tire
Bring, bring, (bring, bring) bring your flowered hat
We’ll take the trail marked on your father’s map
Oh, kiss me, beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon’s sparkling
So kiss me
Kiss me, beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon’s sparkling
So kiss me
So kiss me
So kiss me
So kiss me
Here’s Where the Story Ends – The Sundays
People I know
Places I go
Make me feel tongue tied
I can see how
People look down
They’re on the inside
Here’s where the story ends
People I see
Weary of me
Showing my good side
I can see how
People look down
I’m on the outside
Here’s where the story ends
Ooh, here’s where the story ends
It’s that little souvenir
Of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
Oh, I never should have said
The books that you read
Were all I loved you for
It’s that little souvenir
Of a terrible year
Which makes me wonder why
And it’s the memories of the shed
That make me turn red
Surprise, surprise, surprise
Crazy, I know
Places I go
Make me feel so tired
I can see how
People look down
I’m on the outside
Oh, here’s where the story ends
Ooh, here’s where the story ends
It’s that little souvenir
Of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
And who ever would’ve thought
The books that you brought
Were all I loved you for?
Oh, the devil in me said
Go down to the shed
I know where I belong
But the only thing I ever really wanted to say
Was wrong, was wrong, was wrong
It’s that little souvenir
Of a colorful year
Which makes me smile inside
So I cynically, cynically say
The world is that way
Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise
Here’s, where the story ends
Ooh, here’s, where the story ends
Patience – Guns and Roses
From the comments section:
They should play this whenever Axl is late for a concert.
Slash Autobiography Page – 232
– Axl knew how to transform Izzy’s simple structures into a melodically and lyrically rich song. A great example is “Patience”
No One Knows – Queens Of The Stone Age
We get some rules to follow
That and this, these and those
No one knows
We get these pills to swallow
How they stick in your throat?
Tastes like gold
Oh, what you do to me
No one knows
And I realize you’re mine
Indeed a fool am I
And I realize you’re mine
Indeed a fool am I
I journey through the desert
Of the mind with no hope
I follow
I drift along the ocean
Dead lifeboats in the sun
And come undone
Pleasantly caving in
I come undone
And I realize you’re mine
Indeed a fool am I
And I realize you’re mine
Indeed a fool am I
Heaven smiles above me
What a gift here below
But no one knows
The gift that you give to me
No one knows
I Can See Clearly Now – Johnny Nash
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.
I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.
Look all around, there’s nothin but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin but blue skies
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.
Neighbors – Rolling Stones
Neighbours, neighbours, neighbours
Neighbours
Have I got neighbours?
Have I got neighbours?
All day and all night
Neighbours
Have I got neighbours?
Ringing my doorbells
All day and all night
Ladies, have I got crazies?
Screamin’ young babies
No piece and no quiet
I got TV’s, saxophone playin’
Groanin’ and strainin’
With the trouble and strife
Is it any wonder?
Is it any wonder?
Is it any wonder
That we fuss and fight?
Neighbours
Do unto strangers
Do unto neighbours
What you do to yourself, yourself, yourself
Yourself, yourself?
Is it any wonder?
Is it any wonder?
Is it any wonder
That we fuss and fight?
Neighbours
Do unto strangers
Do unto neighbours
What you do to yourself, yourself, yourself
Yourself?
Neighbours, neighbours, neighbours, neighbours
Neighbours, neighbours, neighbours, neighbours
Neighbours
Do yourself a favour
Don’t you mess with my baby
When I’m workin’ all night
You know that neighbours
Steal off my table
Steal off my table
And doin’ alright, alright, alright, alright
Neighbours do unto strangers
Do unto strangers
What you do to yourself
Yourself, yourself, yourself
